My Name is Isaac Christopher Rivera. I'm a Senior at High Tech High Media Arts in San Diego, CA. I've been attending High Tech High schools for 7 years, so I am no stranger to collaboration and peer critique. I am a student consultant, YMCA volunteer, honors student, snorkeling fanatic, graphic design hobbyist, volleyball player and player manager. I plan to pursue a career in education, currently majoring in Environmental Science. My desire to become a teacher is rooted in my want to positively impact people's experience of the world and their lives through kindness, support and education.

EducationHaving attended High Tech High Media Arts, I’ve been immersed in project based learning for the entirety of high school. PBL has allowed students to connect with subjects in ways unseen in other environments. Over the past four years I have explored a wide variety of topics and have collaborated with almost every one of my peers. Products have ranged from carnival games and art installations to an aquaponics tank and a published book. Having reached the end of high school I’ve come to develop a self-driven attitude and honed a skill set that will help me as I further my education.

Extracurriculars
|
I value High Tech and the opportunities it has given me, and want to leave lasting improvements to the school and student body. As a Co-President of a Socratic Debate club, student ambassador and student consultant I am deeply involved in the student body and student/faculty relations. Extending beyond school hours, I am a 3 year improv team member, 4 year varsity volleyball player and player manager, as well the coach of the girls novice program during the 2018-19 season.

Volunteering
Community outreach has always been a massive pillar in my life. Whether volunteering at special needs events or beach clean ups, I strive to give back to my city and those who live in it. My time volunteering with the Y through their digital studio has been my most substantial, and began well before high school. The Digital Studio aims to bring the education and equipment involved with digital creation to the public. For over 6 years I’ve been with the Digital Studio, assisting during open hours, teaching video production courses, participating in phone banks, and being a student leader for their summer program. As someone who used the studio to explore my passions, I volunteer to show my gratitude and to help others like me to explore opportunities they otherwise might not have had.

Career
|
Moving beyond high school I plan to attend a four year university in the fall of 2019 with a double major in English and Environmental Science. I plan to pursue a career in education, whether at an elementary or college level. I interned as a 5th grade TA at High Tech Elementary, and since then have solidified my love for education and the elevation of others. My desire to become a teacher is rooted in my want to positively impact people's experience of the world and their lives through kindness, support and education. My life has been shaped by quality educators, and I hope to help guide others as I have been.
